The property is a 2 floor, 180 room hotel that was built in 1981. Since then, it has received a multi-million-pound refurbishment in 2022, The hotel recently closed from the public, as it will house male asylum seekers for a year, with the contract starting from January 2025, though some refuges are presently resident.
The owners of the hotel have been contracted with SERCO (www.serco.com) who will control the contract. Two Serco administrative employees will be on site and in addition on 24/7 basis will be 4 security guards. The residents are free to go in and out the hotel but must sign in and out. There is no cooking in rooms with meals being served three times a day. Breakfast 8-10am, Lunch 12:30-2pm, and Dinner 6-8:30pm.
It is important to note that hotel staff will remain to run the hotel to include cooking, providing waiter service and cleaning the rooms. The staff are to operate in teams of two and cleaning staff have been provided with protective clothing and cameras. There is a tea and coffee station opposite the reception and on the ground floor. The gym has been closed and securely locked.
